Navigating graduate school can be challenging! Academia has a unique culture with many unspoken rules and norms that can be bewildering to new (and even not-so-new) students. Moreover, every advisor has individual expectations of their mentees which are shaped by their values and experiences. The following document is my attempt to demystify being a scientist. In it, I have tried to explain what I expect from my students, what they can expect from me, and how to navigate the non-science parts of being a scientist.

Additionally, since clear expectations and effective communication and vital for success in graduate school, students working in my group can expect to complete a formal mentorship agreement. This document outlines mutual expectations, sets common goals, and establishes behavioral norms/responsibilities. It's a dynamic agreement, intended to be revisited annually as the student progresses through their degree:
